FAQs

What is Part-Time?

Part-Time Pros defines “part-time” as the desire or availability to work for any or all of the following alternative work arrangements: alternative hours, work environment (telecommuting) or contract work for a specified period of time.

Why embrace a more flexible work arrangement?

  • It’s the top benefit that many of today’s workers value AND it’s one of the cheapest benefits that an employer can provide. In the September 2009 issue of Parenting Magazine it cited that “67% of working moms preferred part-time over full-time and yet only 24% of them actually worked less than a full-time schedule." In addition, Career Builder and Pew Research collaborated and found that 43% of working moms would take a pay cut in exchange for more time with their children. Society is placing value on things outside of money.
  • It improves productivity. One client of ours changed from 6 full-time employees to 8 part-time employees when he noticed that his part-time pro was more productive than the full-time professionals. By switching his office to 100% part-time, he gets 100% productivity and his employees are thrilled to have the flexibility they value. And, everyone knows a happy employee makes for a more productive employee.
  • You can access new pools of talent you might never have been able to access without flexibility: retiring baby-boomers who would rather work part-time than retire altogether; degreed moms (and dads) who value flexibility while they raise a family; the next generation of workers who value work/life balance over the amount of a pay check.
  • You can reduce turnover costs. Happy employees are loyal employees which means they stay on the job. The cost of losing a single professional to turnover is estimated at 1.5 to 2.5 times the position’s annual salary, according to the Saratoga Institute, a leader in human resource metrics. Less time on recruitment and re-training flows directly to your bottom line.
  • You can be Greener. Telecommuting reduces highway traffic and CO2 output; telecommuting also lets you optimize your building use and avoid the need for more space; and flexibility allows your employees better work-life balance which allows for increased time and energy to volunteer in their communities.

If I allow some people to work a part-time schedule, won’t everyone want to go part-time?

The answer is simply NO. Most people want or need a full-time job because they need to earn a full-time salary. We can look around the world for a little affirmation from Holland, England, and Germany who passed laws in 2000 and 2002 to facilitate workplace flexibility. After 5-7 years, what they found is this: a) there was not a rush to work part-time because most people were content with their current work schedule, and b) of the requests they did receive, they were able to accommodate the majority of them because they could create a win-win for employer and employee.

Do you place professionals in Administrative roles?

Yes, some of our professionals just want to keep their skills fresh and relevant and also have purpose and interaction with professionals. However, they do not wish to be in management positions and sometimes prefer administrative or front office type work. The most important aspect is the flexibility in their schedule.

Can you explain Job Sharing?

Job Sharing is like double the talent. Two sets of skills and perspectives in one position – We do not advise job sharing for all positions but it works very well in many positions that often experience high turnover or burnout. It is also a great solution for employers who have a difficult time with one particular position- they might be able to find 2 experienced professionals just wanting to work part-time for the position.

Can you provide Payrolling services?

Yes, Part-Time Pros can provide payrolling services for clients. Payrolling occurs when the employer or client finds a professional and wants to payroll them through Part-Time Pros in order to, “drive before they buy.” We still suggest having our recruiters help you recruit for a position in an effort to ensure you are truly finding the best possible fit for a position. However, if a client finds someone we can payroll them. The suggested time to payroll is at least 60 working days, preferably 90, to ensure the professional is truly a great fit! Please feel free to e-mail info@parttimepros.net for our rates to pay roll a professional.

  2. Overhead Expenses: Part-Time Pros covers all the cost associated with hiring a professional. We handle all workman’s comp, general liability, federal and state taxes, unemployment, etc.
  3. Exodus of Talent: Right now many managers are operating in full recessionary mode. They are wrestling with how much they should reduce head could and trying to get by with less. As the economy recovers, companies will again be focused on the challenge of winning the highly capable professional to help drive growth. We provide companies with the ability to tap into the skills of the professional who can help drive growth within their business but also phase them into retirement an/or use them to train the next generation of leaders.
  4. Peak or Seasonal Work: Part-Time Pros connects employers with professionals for special projects and allows employers the ability to meet the demands of their clients without hiring additional staff onto their payroll to do so.

Explain how your pool of talent has professionals that we, “won’t find elsewhere?”

Most of the professionals who apply on-line and then come in for an interview have never set foot in another staffing agency prior to approaching Part-Time Pros. This is because they are not your typical, “Temp.” They are degreed professionals who have approached a phase in their life where flexibility in their work environment and job satisfaction outweighs salary and climbing the corporate ladder. Our professional database is our biggest differentiator. Simply put, our professionals don’t job hunt in the conventional ways. Because they are experienced professionals seeking part-time positions in their field, because such jobs are hard to find, and because most companies use recruiting methods that revolve around full-time positions, our professionals are unlikely to a) contact employers directly, b) search for or find jobs on the web and in publications, or c) contact traditional staffing agencies or recruiters. When one considers the shifting demographics in the workforce which has created the need for many people to work longer but with more flexibility and the Businesses’ need to continue to be more creative in how to establish and maintain an effective workforce while also control overhead cost- Part-Time Pros is the “Right Idea at the Right Time”. Part-Time Pros bridges the gap between the individual’s needs and the business needs.

How does Part-Time Pros tout a 98% hire rate?

We take a very personal approach to finding a great match for our client’s needs and our professional’s needs. That is how we have been able to maintain a 98% hire rate for those professionals submitted for temporary to hire positions. In an effort to better understand the client’s needs we ask them to take time to complete a job order form. Providing this information up front will help us determine the best suited professionals for the position and the company.
